Day 1: ~15 hrs Post-op

Although the tegaderm definitely had some life left in it, the tip of the finger wasn’t sealed because the incision had bled a tiny bit and loosened the grip. I took it off to redress it.

I gently washed off the site with an alcohol swab, helping to get some of the dried blood off. The little dots of blood are new, and the pale whiteness of the site of one of my first slices that slipped too close to the epidermis is a little concerning – I’m hopping it’s water logged and not the beginnings of necrosis in that one spot; that could be a trick to deal with.

I redressed with some triple antibacterial ointment and another tegaderm (there’s a knack to getting this on, and I don’t have it – it’s like super glue and duct tape and Saran Wrap combine into one little ball sheet o’ hate). I also wrapped with some elastic gauze just to keep myself aware of the finger – the up/downside of tegaderm is that it’s nearly invisible and unfeelable, so I’m constantly bumping my finger or forgetting not to type with it.

Pain has been more than manageable. I took 600mg ibuprofen immediately after the procedure, and a 325/5 APAP/hydrocodone about two hours after. I slept with no pain meds, and took 600mg ibuprofen as a prophylactic today – sleeping was painless, but a smidge of pain started and faded quickly after my alcohol wipe down. Suffice to say that compared to my chronic migraines and back issues, this is a walk in the park.

I’m pleased that there’s no immediate indication of issues and, as always, hoping that rejection and infection don’t rear their ugly heads!
