ohai. Been a minute. The brain hasn’t been braining very well lately from a health perspective but we ball.

I’ll do a more full post on it sometime soon, but I’ve been having fun with a Docker-contained VNC honeypot. @Xtrato did something similar but I wanted something that I could blow away easily and that was slightly (as barely as Docker is) more isolated. It’s been a ton of fun watching randos drift through, and it got more fun when I put an nvidia-smi executable that indicates that I have 3xP100s attached to the system hehe. I get about ten connections a day, mostly connect-then-drop, but have seen:

  • badly failing to set up XMR mining scripts
  • badly failing to install anydesk
  • someone who more humorously ferretted out that they were inside a Docker container and swore at me
  • SO many script kiddies trying to do… IDK? with Roblox profiles. I assume trying to replay stolen session tokens; I’m stunned that the app allows connections from known colos/cloud providers but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And other misc. nonsense.

I’ve also been messing about with LLMs a bit, pushing a bit more to the fringes in what happens when they’re in conversation with each other, getting better at system prompting, and generally enjoying the heck out of my 48GB VRAM build that was a late birthday present to myself. It’s not a ton, but it’s enough to experiment with. Vibe coding has also been nice; certainly the absolute unhealthiest junk food of programming but sometimes it’s nice to mix up the “let’s get to work and make something with our hands” with some “I just wanna play with the finished project; I wish a genie would come and code it for me”. Definitely room for both.

I published Resonant Chat Arena, a toolbox for setting an LLM in conversation with itself (or two LLMs) – purely vibe coded; the codebase is horrific. But the outputs are fun! I’ve got a few other LLM projects percolating but nothing I’m ready to release yet.

I’ve got a few tech talks bubbling away in the realm of incident management and problem solving in an operations and/or emergency context; the talks are SRE or infra-adjacent targeted, but informed by my work as an EMT and divemaster as well. If you’re looking for any speakers at conferences, feel free to drop me a line.

Anyway, here’s hoping my brain gets better soon; I like sharing what I’m working on but had to harness a night of terrible sleep’s vaguely-manic powers to muster the will to write this lmao.

Keep your stick on the ice.
