New Magnet Implant
Oct 22, 2014
Fun side note: I just was deemed unable to give blood for right now due to my clotting the needle twice. I’m thinking of becoming a new super hero. PLATELET MAN TO THE RESCUE.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted about my magnet implant. It’s still chillin’, mostly subcutaneous, but with a little edge between my dermis and epidermis. I’m expecting some kind of trauma to jar it out one of these days, or for it to work itself out on its own (although it’s stayed at the same depth for the last two months, so we’ll see).
I have just received new magnets, this time coated with titanium nitride. It’s more resistant to fouling, and the magnets are slightly larger and far more powerful than my parylene implant.
I’ve got my big bottle of lidocaine in as well, which leaves me with just a few supply needs:
- sterile saline
- stitch kit (4-0 nylon or similar; appropriate for finger wounds)
- hypodermic needle (27-30 gauge) and syringe (1 or 2CC)
Beyond that, I’ve got everything on my previous list, including some leftover chlorhex prep pads from my last implantation.
Since my last one did slowly work its way out, I’m thinking about keeping the stitches in for much longer this time (4-5 days, rather than the 1-2 of last time) – even though it looked quite healed at removal, keeping them in longer couldn’t hurt.
I’m not sure when exactly I’ll do the implantation, but I’m excited to give it another go!
